Salon music that isn't on Entandem's list

SOCAN and Re:Sound license practically all commercial music, and Entandem bills salons for it like any venue — typically CAD 220–350 a year before a music service. The Oktava catalog is registered with neither society: a salon on Oktava pays CAD 250 a year, total, and keeps a certificate at reception that an inspector can verify by QR on the spot.

A room where the conversation leads

Forty minutes in the chair is a conversation with a soundtrack, not a concert with a haircut. Oktava's salon channels stay deliberately low-key — soft acoustic, warm lounge, unhurried instrumentals — mastered at even loudness so no track spikes over a blow-dryer or a quiet consultation. And because the channels are music only, there is no ad break arriving twice as loud as the song before it.

Entandem does field visits, and a salon is an easy door to walk into. The named certificate at reception resolves via QR to a live verification page with your business name and validity dates; the playback log shows the actual tracks. The staff memo in the dashboard tells your team what to say if you're not in that day.

How it works

Create the account, log the player in on the reception tablet, choose calm channels, set the volume once. All documents — certificate, playback log, staff memo — are in the dashboard from day one; cached channels cover outages.

What it costs

CAD 25 a month or CAD 250 a year per location, everything included — against CAD 220–350 of society fees plus a service bill. Trial: 7 days, no card.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Will clients have to talk over the music?

No — salon channels are selected for low dynamic range and even mastering. One volume setting in the morning holds for the whole day.

A representative visited us in person. What do we show?

The certificate — on the wall or on a phone. Its QR opens a live verification page with your business name and status; the playback log backs it with the actual tracks. If a letter follows, forward it to letters@oktava.app and we prepare the reply.

Any ads or radio talk between tracks?

None. The channels are continuous music — no ads, no jingles, no presenters. That alone is why many salons left radio.
